Adopt A Clinic
Village clinics provide basic health services to community schools, students and their families. We bring those clinics to a functioning standard. The Adopt a School Program aims to develop these clinics in every village where it works

The Adopt a Clinic project aims to ensure that the students of an adopted school and the village community have access to basic health care. It is an extension of the holistic nature of the Adopt a School work.

A partner can  adopt or assist a village clinic in the same way as it can adopt a school. Village clinics are very much in need of support. The adopt a clinic project is particularly in need of trained medical volunteers in the form of Doctors, specialist nurses or midwives.

Village clinics are basically of two types. A village dispensary has a medical orderly who can do simple diagnosis and dispense some medicines. Mostly anti-malarials and pain killers. A Health Centre is able to treat some emergencies and has a ward for patients who can stay for a maximum of 4 days before being moved to  a hospital in a major town center.

The Mareu Clinic Example.

The Mareu Clinic services at least six schools and villages in a drought prone area east of Arusha. All of the schools were being assisted by the Adopt a School Program and workers had noticed numerous health problems among students.

The Mareu Dispensary was partly functioning  and a new building to upgrade the dispensary was partly constructed. The adopt a clinic project with funds from the Adopt a School Foundation (Netherlands) completed the building and provided water and sewerage. With the assistance of The Earth Assistance Foundation and Rotary Australia the building was furnished with  hospital furniture and equipment and stocked with medical supplies.
