How to Help

Description

Educations is the solution to all the problems of Africa!

By adopting a School or a component of our work you can bring hope to thousands of disadvantaged children and contribute to the alleviation of poverty of an entire community.

Should you wish to join us please talk to us about what you expect from the experience both in terms of what you want out of it and what you can contribute. We will identify a school most in need, and tell you what is required to bring the school up to optimum standard.

We will provide you a summary of the work that needs to be done and how we propose you ‘invest’ your social capital, or donation. A breakdown of the estimated costs associated with our work can be downloaded here. (insert link here)

You then begin the fund raising activities in your corner of the world. We will provide photographs, promotional materials and anything we can to assist.

In the meantime, because everyone is responsible for contributing what they can, we work with the school directors, parents committee, village elders and district education office to confirm their participation.

Once funds are raised and a Project Plan agreed upon, we start work. Donors can request a breakdown of expenses at any time; we encourage you to visit as much as you would like.

All Adopt a School projects are supervised by mature professional volunteers who are experienced and competent with the work they have undertaken. Upon completion, a Final Report is sent to the donor; this is supplemented by photographic evidence of progress, which is sent via email periodically throughout the construction/improvement process.

Build A Classroom

For those donors who cannot commit to a whole school, we are always seeking donations to help us improve classrooms in the schools in which we work. These donations are put towards:

- Restoring or rebuilding the classrooms.
- Building or restoring school facilities.
- Purchasing desks and benches for students
- Providing teaching materials for teachers
- Providing textbooks students and teachers
- Equipping Students with essential materials (notebooks, pencils, etc)

Support A Teacher

Description

Teachers are one of our most valuable resources; often Tanzanian teachers are forced to choose between a decent wage, and their work in the classroom. To survive, most have to find secondary or tertiary employment to supplement their meager wages. Just $20 a month, or $240 per year, allows us to provide a valuable salary supplement to the Adopt a School teachers so they are able to focus exclusively on their students.

Adopt a School also supports all costs associated with sending teachers to training colleges or workshops to expand and develop their teaching skills. Every year, this costs the organization no less than $200 dollars per teacher. We believe the investment is a crucial one, however.  A well-trained teacher has a renewed dedication to their work in the classroom.

To help create a better educational experience for the children of our schools.

Provide Clean, Safe Drinking Water

Description

All of the schools we adopt are lacking access to clean, safe drinking water, which is in short supply. Small children must carry large jugs from home, often for many kilometers. Some children go all day without drinking water.

There are many ways to provide clean, safe drinking water to an AaS school. The simplest and most cost-effective way we have found so far is to install roof guttering, which feed into water tanks below. We harvest the water, and make it available to hundreds of community members.

Water harvesting systems are expensive; an investment of $10,000 will provide enough safe water for a community to access year-round.

Adopt A Clinic

Description

Adopt a School is always looking for donors who are interested in supporting any of the health clinics that serve the same populations as our schools. The Adopt a Clinic process is very similar to that which governs our schools program.

Donors are informed of communities where the public health needs are great, but the resources minimal. They are given a summary of the needs and projected costs, and able to determine the level of their support.

Our Adopt a Clinic Program then carries out all on-the-ground construction, repair or renovation. Photographic progress updates are provided to the donor, as is a Final Report on the project. Expenditure reports are available on request at any point.

Adopt A Sports Team

Description

Adopt a School is particularly proud of its sports program, which provides students an opportunity to compete against each other, and builds teamwork amongst the students. Donors are needed to support the sports program in many ways.

Funding is needed for: construction of sports facilities/fields, sports equipment (balls, nets, trophies), and apparel & shoes (uniforms, cleats, etc), Sponsoring a tournament or championship competition is very important as distances are far and the teams have no uniforms or equipment.
